• Each school day, 46 children are diagnosed with cancer.
  • One in 330 children will develop cancer by age 20.
  • Although the 5 year survival rate is steadily increasing, one quarter of children will die 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
  • Cancer remains the number one disease killer of America's children - more than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Asthma and AIDS combined.

About Us

UMC Candlelighters is a 503(c) non-profit organization.  It is governed by a board of volunteers.  All board members are family members of children with cancer or UMC healthcare employees or past employees.   Candlelighters is proud of the fact that 100% of all funds raised or donated are used to support our children with cancer here at The Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital and The Children’s Cancer Clinic.

UMC Candlelighters’ volunteers are indispensable members of our Children's Cancer Center team. The Candlelighters organization meets a variety of needs for patients and their families, as well as for the overall UMC Children's Cancer Program. The staff and the families of the UMC Children's Cancer Center greatly appreciate the important accomplishments and contributions of the UMC Candlelighters.
